Review: Flies at the interface of diagnosis and mechanistic study of both rare and common diseases

We highlight how studies using Drosophila, primarily within the UDN, have facilitated diagnosis and elucidated pathogenic mechanisms underlying rare monogenetic disorders. Furthermore, we argue that the knowledge obtained from studying the function of genes and variants linked to rare diseases can also provide mechanistic insights into common diseases that are phenotypically related.
